Family and Kids Day of Health, Learning, Fun and Food.

Summer is drawing to a close and back to school is right around the corner. To celebrate this Dr. Joe Manza will be holding a Family and Kids Day on Monday, August 29^th at Wellness for You NOW Chiropractic located at 2040 E. Henrietta Rd.; across from Guardian Angels Church.  The event will run from 2pm to 6pm.

There will be free food, live music, coloring contest sponsored by The Rochester Literacy Movement, water balloon toss, raffles for ergonomically correct back-pack, and much more.  Throughout the event Dr. Manza will perform free scoliosis screenings and discuss proper back-pack usage.

Typical scoliosis treatments may involve painful and expensive surgeries and braces. “Abnormal spinal curvature, to any degree, is very detrimental to spinal health and should never be down played as ‘just a scoliosis’. This is vitally important to understand.  These free screenings are extremely valuable because people can discover an entirely different route to effective scoliosis care,” States Dr. Manza.

Scoliosis is a condition that occurs in 2 to 4 percent of children between 10 and 16 years of age and occurs more often in girls than boys. Scoliosis occurs when the spine forms an abnormal C or S shaped curvature. Symptoms may include back pain, leg pain, hip pain, altered walking gait or even no symptoms at all. The bony spine is designed to protect the delicate nervous system, and any abnormal curvature of the spinal structure will negatively impact the health of that delicate nervous system.    

Backpack safety is also important to understand to keep our growing children healthy. While there are many reasons a child may develop back pain, maintaining proper backpack safety is one of the easiest ways to prevent poor spinal health. It is recommended kids carry no more than 10% of their body with in their backpack.
